Welcome to Quill & Cross

Thank you for stopping by. My name is Tony, and more than anything else, I am a sinner saved by the sovereign grace of God.

This website exists to glorify God by proclaiming the sufficiency of Scripture, the supremacy of Christ, and the sovereignty of God’s grace through devotionals, and writings on the Christian life. But before I began putting these truths into writing, God had to break my own self-ruled heart and remake it from the inside out.

A Heart Curved Inward

For nearly thirty years, I lived as a practical atheist, convinced that true freedom meant answering to nobody but myself. I spent my adult life working in the tile trade, measuring my worth entirely by my hands, my physical strength, and the approval of others. On the outside, I was building an ordinary life as a husband and a father. On the inside, I was deeply enslaved to darkness: chasing substance abuse, deceit, and private indulgences to quiet a persistent restlessness.

I thought I was managing my life, but I was living out the reality of a heart curved inward upon itself. I loved myself, and I loved God’s gifts, but I despised the Giver.

On October 31, 2020, the Lord completely shattered my false peace. In a moment of absolute crisis that brought me to my knees, the Law of God stripped away every comfortable excuse I had ever made. I no longer saw my sin as pleasurable, freedom, or even as a series of mistakes, but as blatant treason against a God who had never ceased being good to me. Broken, crushed, and with nothing to offer God but my own guilt, I confessed my rebellion. In that dark bedroom, sovereign grace did what no human effort ever could: He gave me a new heart.

Learning to Walk Outward

The morning after my conversion, the old masters had lost their grip. The Lord changed my desires before He changed my habits. He replaced an appetite for destruction with an insatiable hunger for His written Word and sound, Christ-centered doctrine.
The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. My wife, Sabrina, and I were eventually brought under the faithful, patient shepherding of Cornerstone Church. Through the local body, the Lord began the slow, daily work of sanctification: teaching me how to lay down my pride, how to receive godly correction, how to be a biblical steward of my finances, and how to faithfully shepherd my household.

The Stewardship of the Quill

I never planned on becoming a writer. During my years in the world, my words were used for foolishness. Today, writing is a stewardship I approach with fear and trembling.

The name Quill & Cross represents a daily boundary:
• The Quill is merely the weak, imperfect tool in the hand of the Potter.
• The Cross is the definitive message.

Without the cross, the quill has absolutely nothing worth saying.

My prayer for every scripture study, devotional, and reflection on this site is that it points entirely beyond the writer. I do not want you to leave this website thinking about my words; I want you to leave treasuring the Living Word, Jesus Christ, above all things.

If He can turn a heart as deeply curved inward as mine, no one is beyond the reach of His sovereign grace.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:4-10
